Middle Temple Wedding
It’s taken me a while to publish Heather & Tony’s Middle Temple wedding which took place shortly before we went into lockdown (the first one, cast your mind back). It took place in a part of London which I love, and which is full of history and interesting old buildings. I have no shame in lifting this straight from wiki: ‘The Middle Temple is the western part of “The Temple”, which was the headquarters of the Knights Templar until they were dissolved in 1312. There have been lawyers in the Temple since 1320, when they were the tenants of the Earl of Lancaster, who had held the Temple since 1315.’ So yes, some serious history. Heather and Tony met through their work as barristers, and Tony has had an illustrious and long career.
The wedding was very much a family affair, with musical performances during the ceremony from Tony’s grandchildren. There were readings from family members and close friends, including Sir Mark Rylance. Following the ceremony, there was a short drinks reception before heading back into the hall for speeches. It’s not everyday I photograph a wedding where the bride introduces the next speech with the words “and now… Sir Ian McKellen” but this was one such wedding. And yes, he was as eloquent and engaging as you’d imagine.
Middle Temple Hall is a stunning London wedding venue. The light is great and the tones from all the dark wood helps to create dramatic and atmospheric imagery. I hope to return there for another wedding one day, but til then, here are some favourites from Heather & Tony’s day.
