Lauren & Patrick had their winter wedding at The HAC – Honourable Artillery Company to give it its full name. Their wedding ceremony took place at another grand London venue, the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London.
My coverage of their wedding started at the Hung Drawn & Quartered pub at Tower Hill with Patrick and his ushers. He looked very smart in military uniform. I left the boys downing their pre wedding pints and headed over to where Lauren was getting ready at her parents’ flat in The Barbican. I love this iconic building so it was great to be nosey and see inside an apartment there.
The wedding was taking place a few days before Christmas and daylight is in short supply at this time of year. Fortunately, the ceremony was early enough in the day for Lauren to arrive at The Tower of London with the last of day’s light, which was beautifully soft. My advice to anyone planning a winter wedding is to have your ceremony during the earlier part of the day before the sun sets so you can maximise the light.

Photographers are unfortunately not allowed to take photos inside the chapel. However, the Reverend Canon Roger Hall is a very affable and accommodating man, and encourages you to lean inside the door to take your photos. It’s actually a really lovely viewpoint from which to photograph the wedding ceremony. Following on from the vows, the signing of the register takes place in the crypt, in the presence of one of the Tower’s Yeoman Warders, or “Beefeaters”.
On to the HAC for the wedding reception, dinner, and dancing. The venue looked suitable Christmassy with twinkling lights, and a good time was had by all. If you’re getting married at The HAC, or anywhere else, and you like my photography, please get in touch
